Attribute: UNSPSC Code

United Nations Standard Products and Services Code® (UNSPSC®) is an open, global, multi-sector standard for classifying products and services efficiently and accurately. Managed by GS1 US® for the UN Development Program (UNDP), the UNSPSC provides a single global classification system that enhances company-wide visibility of spend analysis and facilitates cost-effective procurement optimization.

The use of UNSPSC codes helps in identifying and describing goods and services accurately, streamlining procurement processes, optimizing supply chain management, and allowing for the comparison of products and services across different countries and industries.

Data Sources

The UNSPSC data is maintained by GS1 and assigned by the Internal GHX Classification Team.

Standardization

UNSPSC codes are standardized in Data Connect based on GHX Assignment and may vary from the direct manufacturer catalog/website.

Considerations

GHX uses the standard created by GS1 to assign the most relevant UNSPSC code possible while also driving standardization across manufactures and items. This standardization ensures consistency when reviewing or managing this data within your ERP. It is not uncommon for manufacturers to have different interpretations of UNSPSC assignment for like items, creating a potential misalignment, which our classification avoids.

GHX provides the most recent version of the UNSPSC soon after it is published by GS1. Customers must load the UNSPSC reference tables into their ERP.
