Survivorship Rules
Survivorship rules in Data Connect are used to determine which data attributes are retained when merging multiple records or data sources. These rules are critical in data integration processes to make sure that the most accurate, relevant, and up-to-date information is maintained in the system.
Items in the GHX master catalog are created from various sources, such as:
-
Manufacturer catalogs
-
Supplier catalogs
-
Contract data
-
FDA's AccessGUDID
-
Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN)
-
Other sources
All of these sources are matched to each other on an attribute-by-attribute basis, and the best source for a particular attribute is selected. All data is ultimately merged into one GHX master item. The GHX items are continuously updated as source data changes.
What determines a best source is based on a series of rankings such as:
-
Priority setting: Priorities are set for different data sources. If quality data isn't available from the primary source, the system continues to run through a series of rankings until it finds a good source. For example, the primary source for a supplier part number is the supplier and manufacturer catalogs. If reliable data isn't available from the primary source, the next step is to check another source, like the supplier's purchase order acknowledgment on the GHX Exchange.
-
Data quality: Rules incorporate data quality metrics for completeness, accuracy, and recency to validate values.
Item recommendations are evaluated and presented based on curated data.
